iPhone 7 Plus Unboxing- Ian’s first smart phone.
It’s also his very first unboxing video.
Ian talks about the iphone 7 Plus’s compatibility with the Mavic drone, and the differences between Mac and PC.
He, in cat like fashion, also appears to have developed a love of packaging.

It’s going to be an unboxing video.
I could describe myself as a bit of an apple freak. I haven’t used a pc in years, I’ve always used apple products because the software is always designed to work with the thing. Whereas with a PC you’ve got a piece of software that’s trying to work with so and so’s graphics card, so and so’s made a motherboard, somebody else has made the memory, the processor, and the drives.
All of these things have to be accommodated by the software and therefore what you’re going to get, in my opinion, with an apple product, is a product that works better.
It’s going to be faster because it’s not having to make all the accommodations to just do its job.
That being said, I’ve never had a smartphone, and that has been fine for me, up until the point where we decided to get a drone.
As soon as you get a drone you need to have a smartphone, and if you’re going to have a smartphone, you might as well have the smartphone that the manufacturer of the drone recommends; and that they built the thing to work with. And in that case it is an iphone 7 plus.
Am I holding in that up the right way? I am, congratulations me.
Introducing the phone
This is the 32 gigabyte version of the iphone 7 plus, and it apparently comes with the ear pods with the Lightning connector, and a lightning to headphone jack adapter, for those people who are very very sad about the fact that it no longer has a hole.
Probably not a bad idea, because it makes it waterproof, and considering we do canoeing and in a bit of wild swimming, that sort of thing, that’s ideal for me.
One thing I’ve read was that they reckon it can go down to 50 meters, if you look at the apple website it suggests one meter, It’s supposedly water resistant as opposed to waterproof.
I don’t know.
This is the charging cable.
It’s ever so dinky, cause you’ve got a little lightning thing on there.
And a USB thing here, which is all stuck together, again very cleverly.
I don’t know how you’re supposed to take this apart without…
Oh, I see! You pull it, and it unsticks itself, but not in a way that appears to destroy the packaging.
Which is really clever.
I like designs like this, things that have been thought out that you can go ‘oh yeah’,
I can only assume somebody used a computer to help design this stuff.
This is another one of those things that you kinda go,‘how the hell does this come apart?’ because it’s stuff that’s folded on.
I really don’t think that you can see this from that distance but, this is folded over that, which is folded over this, which eventually comes apart, and then you kind of get a ghost of the shape.
I ordered myself a sim card from a company called giffgaff, and giffgaff have sent me a sim card
Which is obviously stuck to stuff in a wondrous way.
This is quite clever because it’s one sim card that does three different sizes.
I am now attempting to remove the nano SIM card size, which is the smallest of the small, it really doesn’t want to come apart.
There we go!
It does want to come apart.
This is the nano SIM card.
I wanted to take the SIM card out of my old phone, but that wasn’t a nano SIM card, and it transpires that a nano SIM card is a different thickness to all of the other sim cards. It’s slightly thinner, and apparently if you stick it into your iphone there’s a possibility that it won’t come back out again.
Place the nano SIM card in its tray, place the tray under there, and stick it in.
And that goes completely flush.
This is amazing!
Such a solid feeling thing, I can understand why people were sitting on them and bending them.
Whether that still occurs or not I don’t know.
There we go, you can see it over there as well.
I’ve got it connected to the Internet, I’ve done the whole thing where you set up so that it knows who you are with your fingerprints.
That is stupendously impressive!
Well look, let me demonstrate this bit to you,
I’m sure you’ve already seen all this, but still.
Right, let’s say for example that I am a nefarious person, who wishes to break into my phone. I can come along here, I can press the button, and that’s it, that’s as far as I can get.
Press the unlock button with the wrong finger and it comes up with a keypad.
Now if you don’t know the key pad number, then again you’re stuffed, if however you need to make an emergency call you can, that’s cool.
However, if you are not a nefarious person, you come along and you press the appropriate finger to it, pressing the button, you go straight into the phone, and its really quick!
It’s currently downloading all of the apps that I have on my ipad on to this which, I would say is going to take a while, because I have quite a few apps on there.
Putting on a case
I’m going to stick a case on this.
I purchased the Tozo ultra-thin tempered glass, or galas, gal gal galass, screen cover.
The whole idea of tempered glass is that it will withstand quite serious impacts.
A piece of tempered glass.
(laughs) I’ve got a hair under it.
Oh, I don’t know if you can see this, but you can actually see it making contact across there, that is just, kind of, oh it’s kind of creepy but lovely at the same time.
It seems to be working out okay.
So, once it’s on, the content within the screen sits exactly within the protector.
Now the back of the phone.
I’ve got an ultra-thin Pret.
I have no idea.
Putting on a screen
Oh no, apparently it’s Perfect, it’s got little letters, you see, between the big ones, but either way it says Pret to me.
You can tell it’s good because it says high in quality on the front of it, if it didn’t say high quality we would know, we would just know!
We would know that it was a fools errand to use this thing.
Poor quality! It must be, doesn’t say a high quality on it. Now then, you will be amazed to see just how advanced this piece of technology is.
That is it, that’s all it is.
It’s ultra ultra thin, which is what we want, because we want to make sure that this will still fit into the drone.
Basically, what you do is you stick this over the back of the phone, and it’s all good, it just prevents it from getting scratched.
There is a very narrow bit along here and it says in the manual
WARNING! This part is THIN and easy to break!
There we go.
I was going to say it goes easily, and it does go easily right up to the last minute.
There we go, and it’s on!
Basically, what it’s done is just remove the Apple symbol off the back, other than that it looks pretty much the same.
Which is kind of what you want. And all the buttons are accessible.
Along with this one; which I don’t actually know what that is.
I suppose I ought to find that out.
I’m going to have to read some instructions somewhere. They didn’t come with phone, so I’m guessing that they will be beamed directly into my brain overnight by Apple.
This is all I can assume.
As you can see it still works perfectly well.
Even though it’s got a screen protector on it.
