It’s time for a new car.
We pick up and test out the brand spanking new 2017 Mini Countryman!
We’re getting a new Mini!
And all we have to do now is go to the dealership, sign some paperwork, because you always have to sign paperwork, and drive away with it.
Jo- shall we? Can we go?
Ian- so we’re gonna go.
We’re gonna get a mini!
We’ve been basically driving around in Ian’s parents Volvo for the past month, we’re very grateful having the Volvo, because otherwise we’d have been without car.
We sold the Landrover far quicker than we thought we would, so we did envision ourselves staying at home like a couple of Hermits.
And then we realized that we needed to go out and do things and see stuff and we couldn’t do that without the car.
So thank you Ian’s parents!
Because we have the Volvo it also enables us to go get the mini!
Ian: Are those Poplar trees? No they barely have any friends at all!
It’s got a bow, Brilliant!
Jo- ladies and gentlemen meet the new mini
Ian- It’s huge isn’t it!
Jo- Mini by name but not Mini by Nature
Yeah, did you not know the new Countryman doesn’t have any seat belts?
That’s just not a thing.
Ian- you’re just wrapped in foam or something are you?
You just stay in there by suction.
Ian- (talking about foam) it’s that feeling of ergh
No, they’ve got a series of suction cups.
Ian- oh, okay, that’ll work, yeah.
I forgot to tell you, it’s an optional extra, seat belts or suction cups.
Oh no, this isn’t happening! (laughs)
Do you want to cut the ribbon?
It’s got a car kit.
It’s a good bag that
It is isn’t it?
Ian- Ooh my word
Chloe- but yeah, you get all of the mini stuff.
100 % approved ‘used’ mini.
Chloe- That’s the only holder that we have.
Ian- Well this is a car then, what do I need to know?
(Marco chuckling) That’s your steering wheel, you use it to turn left and right.
That’s your gear stick.
There is a sort of camera, it’s housed here, that senses pedestrians and the car that is ahead of you.
So if you’re approaching too fast, and the car senses that you’re not touching the brake, it will alert you that it’s time to brake.
Ian- It won’t brake for you?
It won’t brake for you, it just reduces the space between the brake pads and discs, so it’s a lot sharper brake.
Chloe- and it gives you a beep as well.
You can’t change what it says, like Brake you fool!
Chloe- No, not yet.
Jo- It think it should come with a brake you fool option.
Yeah, in a variety of celebrities voices, you know, Steven Fry.
Jo- Brian Blessed- that’ll make you brake.
You can tell it to be well done, medium, and rare.
Twist the wheel left and right to scroll through the options, and then you press it down to go into the menu.
Under the vehicle status you can know,<.h2>
for example, the pressure of the tyres individually.
Picture search- for example if you go for number four it’s under the bonnet- this is your engine bay. If you rev the engine there is going to be a white light going towards the orange and red section.
Ian- Brilliant that’s what we want!
You can set it to match the ambient light, which is something that you can change colour from up here.
Something that will be a standard on every car from 2018, by law.
It works in two cases.
You can either press it yourself, you get in touch with Mini emergency services in case you break down.
And that all happens through the speakers.
Or, if your airbag were to deploy Mini will know that that happened onto this vehicle and it will contact you to see whether you’re ok.
If I press that, so that’s anything, so if it breaks down if it…
You can use it for anything.
Even if you see an accident and just want to report it.
Chloe- that is, it sounds daft, but it’s one of my favourite things on it, because if you’re pelting down the motorway, and you see an accident on the other side, they’re so hard to find for the emergency services.
If you press that it’ll dial them, but it’ll pinpoint where you pressed it.
They know everything about the car, like the direction of travel, how many people are in, because of how many seatbelts are done up, the colour.
They said that they’ve had people that have gone off the side of the road and they’re not visible, but they know that it’s an island blue car, so they can find them a bit easier.
And they were saying about a woman that they kept conscious as well.
She didn’t press the button, they dialed the car and tried to get hold of her, she wasn’t very responsive, but they managed to keep on talking to her, keep her conscious, and then get the services out to her. And it’s all run by a separate battery and SIM card to the car.
So that even if…
Ian- you don’t have your phone in it
And you’ve got three seconds to cancel it.
Shall we take it for a spin?
Jo- We should probably get the bow off the windscreen first.
We’ve got the mini!
Jo- It’s so comfortable.
It’s a bit special.
And it’s got brakes.
And the brakes work.
In a car where brakes work.
There’s me looking for a key fob to take out, and there isn’t one.
I call first mud (laughing)
Ian (laughs) you did.
That’s really good it’s really nice to drive, really nice to drive.
It was really relaxing I don’t even mind that I got lost.
Ian- I’ve had a phone call since you’ve been out.
We have to take it back.
It’s the wrong one.
You know I’m not buying it.
We already bought it.
Discovered this logo emanating from the door-handle only very recently.
How cool is that?
Cupholders, strip lighting, and door handles.
Also overhead lights.
My feet in the light.
