A Mile Walk to get a Drone Shot
In which, we intrepid camera people, walkers extraordinaire, people with a drone, walk through beautiful woodland (and a cave) to get a drone shot.
Will we get the shot? Will we get attacked by rabid squirrels? Watch to find out!
If you fancy getting a Mavic for yourself have a look HERE.
Hello and welcome to Something Vloggy.
Today we’re taking a little bit of a stroll.
We’re sort of near chepstow, and we’re going to head to the Pierce field Cliff thing so that we can get a nice piece of footage of what’s on the other side of the river.
It’s about a mile and a bit there, and a mile and a bit back.
We’re going to walk there, stick a drone up in the air, take a shot, we shot all the other stuff for the rest of the film a couple of days ago.
This is something for WyeValley.TV, and basically this is what filmmakers do.
They spend an awful lot of time wandering around trying to find the perfect location to find the perfect shot.
And so you join us today to do that.
Bye!
Look, you can tell we’re in woodlands because here are some leaves, shot in an artistic fashion.
We’re going to investigate.
What we going to do? Investigate the hut.
Ignore the hut.
We’re going to investigate the hut
Ignore the hut.
We’re ignoring the hut.
If we roll one of these can we take it home and use it as a coffee table?:
It’s incredibly easy to forget that we live in a remarkably beautiful place in the world and we kind of to some degree take it for granted.
You forget that all this is here, that you can just wander out of your front door and go for walk somewhere beautiful, or get in the car and go for a walk somewhere beautiful. Or do what we’re doing today which is basically work, and we’re
somewhere beautiful.
And the thing about this is we’re not too near any major cities, but they’re far enough away that you just don’t notice them being there.
Yeah, they’re quite handy because it means for about an hour’s drive you can get there and buy whatever it is that you need to buy that you can only get in a city, the rest of the time you have this on your doorstep.
This is called the Giants cave apparently.
I’ll have a look.
Doesn’t appear to be occupied, but you know, that’s a little nest that is.
Which is lovely, innit?
Yeah.
I am now entering the Giants crave.
Oh my God! Look at how terrifying it is.
I’m terrified.
There’s Jo standing behind me making it all less terrifying. Oh, well there you go, you see it’s um: more cave-like than you might expect.
And there is the mouth of the cave.
(echoey) The mouth of the cave!
It’s not what you call giant.
It’s a reasonably sized cave, but giant- no. Nice view though.
There’s another cave.
A standing stone. I can’t stand it!
It’s a thing!
Ian, tell us about the side trip we took to see this… marvel.
Well, we decided that, because of the fact that it says on the map that there is a grotto, we would go and see the grotto.
And… there it is.
Grotto
Grott-oh!
Piercefield Estate.
What a shame. This is too windy to stick a drone in the air isn’t it?
Probably, shall we go look at the view though?
Which way are we going?
I sus…. pect we want to be over there.
Let’s wonder over there
Go- over there.
It’s quite windy.
I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to be too windy to get the shot, but the best way of telling it to stick the drone up in the air, and see if the thing complains.
And it is. It’s complaining about the wind velocity.
But let’s see… if it continues to complain about the wind
velocity.
Okay so yeah, it’s a bit windy, not an ideal place to land because there’s just too much grass, but it came down in one piece.
And yeah, although I thought for a moment I was going to be sucking grass into the rotor blades, doesn’t seem to happened.
I’ve got a couple of shots.
They’re probably not great, because the wind is just a little bit too much.:
It was complaining on and off about the wind, but you could actually see that the thing that’s being pushed along by it.
Sometimes that’s just what you have to put up with, you can walk for quite a long way to get the shot that you’re after and then there’ll be something that will mean that that shot just won’t be gettable that day.
It could be the wind, it could be…
We’ve walked two miles out onto open moorland before to have a very unexpected rain shower completely ruin the shot we’re about to take of some badgers and some foxes.
But, you know, these are the things that happen, and that’s part and parcel of all the fun of making films.
We’re going to walk back to the car now, see you next time with Something Vloggy.
Don’t forget to, you know, do those things that you’re supposed to do on YouTube videos.
I don’t know what they are.
And if you have any comments about what you’ve seen today, you want to call us idiots, or you want to tell us what lovely people we are, please feel free.
See you around. Bye now!
